Description
This panel gathers graduate students who participated in AAG’s “Methods Training for Students” Program. This program was funded by AAG Council in Summer 2020 (among the recommendations from AAG’s COVID-19 Task Force) to establish workshops, freely available to AAG members and designed for graduate students, to demonstrate a research method in geography that is feasible or adaptive during a pandemic.
More details about the Methods Training for Students program:
https://aag-gradresearch-series.secure-platform.com
The students are from a variety of institutions and doing research across the spectrum of geography, to share their experiences making progress on their research during COVID-19. The students will discuss a few questions:
Which workshop or seminar of “AAG’s Learning Series” have you participated in and how has it helped you adjust your research and adapt in a new circumstance?
How has your research been impacted by the pandemic?
What research suggestions would you give to the other students?
If you are a graduate student whose research has been impacted by the pandemic and want to connect with other geographers to seek possible solutions and peers’ support, this panel session is for you!
About AAG’s Learning Series for Graduate Students
The original proposal for this program was written in May 2020 as part of AAG’s COVID-19 Task Force by Brittany Lauren Wheeler (Clark University) and Dydia Delyser (California State University, Fullerton) as members of the “Student” subcommittee chaired by Lindsay Naylor (University of Delaware). Their proposal was selected for implementation by AAG Council in July 2020. The Selection Committee for this program is composed of faculty at all levels and a graduate student: Lindsay Naylor (Chair, University of Delaware), Dydia DeLyser (California State University, Fullerton), Adriana E. Martinez (Southern Illinois University Edwardsville), Skye Naslund (University of Washington), and Yuqin Jiang (University of South Carolina). The program implementation was further informed by Joslyn Zale (University of Southern Mississippi) and Iain Hay (Flinders University of South Australia) who each instructed a pilot workshop, and by the participating graduate students.
