Abstract
It is estimated that the share of Generation Z in 2020 was approx. 35% of the world's population, thus Gen Zers were ahead of their predecessors - Generation Y. This means that Generation Z is currently the largest generation in the world. However, despite the fact that this generation currently has a larger share in the population than Generation Y, it is the older generation of so-called Millennials that has received the main attention in the literature. The increasing share of Gen Zers in the general population, as well as the lack of quantitative literature reviews on this generation, calls for holistic analyses to fill this research gap.
This study aims to: 1) understand the characteristics of research collaboration in Generation Z topic; 2) detect the research hotspots in Generation Z topic; 3) identify recent developmental trends and frontiers in Generation Z research. For this purpose, a scientometric analysis was performed using CiteSpace software. The Web of Science database was used as a data source. 746 publications as of September 30, 2021, were considered. The following analyses were performed as part of the scientometric analysis:: country collaboration network, institution collaboration network, author collaboration network, category collaboration network, document co-citation analysis, and keyword co-occurrence analysis.
The results show that the number of studies on Generation Z has been growing rapidly since 2016. This trend is still continuing. The largest number of publications were on the topic of education, business, and management, from the USA, Czech Republic, Russia, Slovakia, and Poland.
